There she is – our beautiful lady out of the water. No, I don’t mean Amlas – even though it would be also true – but I am talking about DolphinQuest, our catamaran. Continue reading

Six weeks to go!

Whale Rescue
A touching account of trying to free a whale from his life-threatening entanglement of fishing lines from Tom Conlin, founder of Aquatic Adventures. He was the first operator to run a Whales of the Silver Bank expedition.
Tom has 21 years experience over a 216-week time frame working whales on the Silver Bank. WildQuest has been facilitating their yearly Whale Retreat for many years with his company. Download a pdf file.
Legal Status
Very good article in the Guardian about the campaign for intelligent marine mammals to have right to life, which would protect them from hunters and captivity.

Talk with a Dolphin
Denise Herzing, founder of the Wild Dolphin Project in Jupiter, Florida and Thad Starner, an artificial intelligence researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, collaborate on a project named Cetacean Hearing and Telemetry (CHAT). They want to work with dolphins to “co-create” a language that uses features of sounds that wild dolphins communicate with naturally.
Whale-sliding!
What a great read, describing the playtime of a group of bottlenose dolphins and humpback whales in the Hawaiian Waters. There is also a video link on the blog. Makes me giggle, just looking at the pics.
